Dear Stephen,
You say stephania root is contraindicated in lyme carditis in your book Healing Lyme, but elsewhere in that chapter it says you’ve found it effective in treating arrhythmia, angina and myocardial infarction. Can you clarify that discrepancy? Thanks.

Stephen’s response:
Good question. I actually say that caution should be exercised in its use for lyme carditis. This is because of the particulars of heart involvement in lyme disease. One of the primary problems in lyme is atrioventricular block. Because stephania is a powerful calcium channel blocker caution should be exercised as pharmaceutical calcium channel blockers are not to be prescribed in AV block.

As I go on to note there are no indications that the herb is truly contraindicated in lyme carditis but because of the impact of calcium channel blockers on AV block, caution should be exercised in its use when lyme carditis is involved.

Stephen

This protocol was incredible. After only a few weeks most of my symptoms were gone. After six months all my symptoms were gone… it has given me my life back.

what can i use if i suspect a lyme related blockage? began treatment in 2015 but now that lungs improved, am noting issues with heart function. i have pains all different times, and higher beats per minute during cardio, plus fatigue is causing time to complete the six mile bike ride to my place of work to go from 20 to 30 minutes the past 4 weeks. resolved lung issues only recently but keep experiencing the viral forms of low respiratory infection (working with 400 children). what do you recommend for either/both?

wanted to note, i twice had palpatations as a result of lyme infection. i only get them every few days now where at onset (October 2001 and Jan. 2014) heart rates climbed to 240 BPM walking up steps and hills or sitting on the couch. this has mostly resolved now but for occasional palps.

Hi Stephen, I too wonder what can be taken in suspecting lyme carditis, I had a conduction issue with my heart in the form of a tachycardia last year. It appeared to go away after a weeks worth of doxycycline. But I think that only temporarily helped me, i feel like doxycycline is no longer effective on me in any shape or form. Now I feel like it’s back in the form of Bradycardia and I’m afraid my hearts just going to stop. Is there anything that will help? Hope to hear from you soon!

She is 18 yrs old and now has a complete heart block. and doctors would not help us. They said due to her autism they do not recommend a pacemaker she will pull it out. COuld you please help me/us. Hi Dylan,
I’m having very similar issues. As a young adult, I was diagnosed with SVT (always puzzled me) and now having
V-tach, another type of tachycardia. Nearly 2 years of dull chest pain
now sharper pains. I just got back positive Western blot bands. I am seeing a lyme doc soon but after 20 yrs of weird health issues and puzzled cardiologists, I feel doctors are not helping. I am not finding a lot of answers relating to lyme and heart issues, just assuming it’s lyme. I am taking CoQ10, magnesium, and omega fish oil…I will keep you posted if any of these supplements work. Wild oregano oil has really helped stop my palpitations.
