with Stephen Harrod Buhner, master herbalist
I have had FM/CFS for 10 years. I was diagnosed with Lyme disease 2 years ago by Igenex. I have tried antibiotics (and stopped—not the answer for me) and alternative therapies, including some of the herbs you recommend. Unfortunately, I’m getting sicker. I tested positive for mercury via DMSA provocation, and I think that’s as big of a problem as the Lyme disease. I’ve tried chelating different ways (MSM, NAC, DMSA, etc.) and gotten foggier. I also have an electric light sauna and recently started nebulizing glutathione. What ways can I get heavy metals down safely? I can’t afford to lose more cognitively. Thank you for your help.
Stephen’s response:
I would begin the intake of the following powdered mix (available from Dry Creek Herb Farm in California, ask for the Hep C formula WITHOUT the strong liver herbs): chlorella, spirulina, milk thistle seed, dandelion root, burdock root, bladderwrack, tumeric, licorice, astragalus, siberian ginseng, ashwaghanda. Take 1/4 – 1/2 cup of the powder and blend with juice and drink just before bed.
Try to go to bed by 9pm latest and eat no later than 6pm. You may have to slowly work up in quantity as it takes some getting used to. However, I have used this formulation for nearly ten years for CFS with excellent success. The chlorella is the specific thing that can reduce heavy metals for you.
