Managing MCS
Chemical injury vs. biotoxin-related illnesses
with William J. Rea, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.A.A.E.M.

Environmental Health

Dear Dr. Rea,
Are there any generalizations you can make about the way chemical sensitivity presents in people with chemical injury vs. those with a biotoxin illness like lyme disease or mold-related illness? Or are the symptoms the same for both classes of conditions?

Dr. Rea’s response:
In my experience, it appears that the symptoms for both chemical injury and biotoxin-related illnesses are much the same. Reactive airway disorders, digestive distress, “brain fog” and other neurological issues, and other common symptoms are seen in cases across the board, and they both usually involve multiple organ systems.
