Managing MCS
Permanent injury

Environmental Health

Dear Dr. Rea,
Are there certain types of injuries that are permanent—like certain pesticide poisonings? Or is there always hope for improvement at some level?

Dr. Rea’s response:
There is always hope for improvement from chemical injury and one should never give up hope. A targeted treatment program should include: 1) stopping the source of exposure; 2) reducing the body’s existing toxic burden; and 3) nourishing/rebuilding at the cellular level.

Stopping the source of exposure includes environmental controls in the home and office—like air purifiers with carbon filters, the use of non-toxic building materials, and chemical free cleaning/laundry products. Sauna detoxification and certain supplements can help with toxin removal. You can increase nourishment to the body by identifying and treating food/chemical allergies and intolerances, making dietary changes, and using supplements and herbs. We incorporate all of these approaches at the Environmental Health Center-Dallas (EHC-D).
