Genetic markers for MCS?
with William J. Rea, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.A.A.E.M.

Environmental Health

Dear Dr. Rea,
Are you familiar with Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker’s theory on biotoxin-related illnesses? He presents various genetic markers for susceptibility to mold illness, post-lyme disease, etc. Are there any such genetic markers known for those with chemical, electromagnetic, sound, vibration, and light sensitivities? Do you do any genetic testing as part of your testing protocol in your clinic?

Dr. Rea’s response:
Yes, I am familiar with Dr. Shoemaker’s theory and protocol for mold and other biotoxin related illnesses. There are currently no similar genetic markers for those with environmental illnesses. We do offer genetic testing at the Environmental Health Center-Dallas (EHC-D), however, the tests to measure for the different antipollutant enzymes are currently very crude.
