Need hernia surgery – are the patches safe?

Dear Dr. Rea,
I have MCS, allergies, COPD, thyroid and adrenal problems. I need to have fairly extensive hernia surgery in the groin and abdomen. Are the hernia patches to your knowledge made out of a safe material that will not leech or cause other problems? Is the material BPA free? My doctor is worrried about me not having the patch put in as due to connective-tissue issues resulting from weak adrenals he is worried that stitching up the tear may not last or would cause other tears elsewhere. Is there a form of surgery that would be safer? Is there a place you can recommend that treats MCS patients? Many thanks.

Dr. Rea’s response:
The only safe hernia patches are your own fascia or pork mesh. All the synthetics are toxic. Dr. Ward Lane in Dallas, Texas does these. His number is (972) 661-7860.
