with Stephen Harrod Buhner, master herbalist
I started your protocol 4 months ago, reason being I am suffering with multiple sclerosis (MS) or neurolyme symptoms. My lyme test from Igenex actually came back negative, but my doctor said to give your protocol a go to see if I see any improvement to indicate that I may have lyme. So far I am not seeing any improvement, the numbness is still bad. Would you say it sounds unlikely that I have lyme disease after 4 months? Thank you.
Stephen’s response:
About 5% of the people who use the protocol don’t experience improvement; I am not sure why. In your case, I suspect that you don’t have lyme since Igenex is pretty good on their tests.

Hi…just want to point out that IgeneX can be negative, and someone can still have lyme.
My sister has persistent lyme. She tested CDC positive in 2006, went on treatment, her LLMD had to stop practicing in Massachusetts. She went w/o treatment for awhile.
She was re-tested last year (thru Igenex) and was only positive on band 41 on either the Igg or Igm(can’t recall which).
Subsequently, she was administered IV antibiotics. She herxed, developing 3 perfect “classic” bull’s eye rashes. She had never had/noticed the Rash ever before. Persistence of infection(?). I’d say so. I realize this is “anecdotal” as so much is with this disease.
Speaking for myself and others I’ve known with lyme, the right (or varied) protocol + time = improvement.
I didn’t notice any difference until 9 months or more after treatment.
Just wanted to put that out there.
best of luck,
Sharon

Thanks Sharon, yes it is important to remember that there are no hard and fast rules with this. I think that Stephen was responding to the fact that not only was Igenex negative, but there was no improvement at all on his herbs, which you usually will notice some improvement within the first few months. Of course, there is the chance that this person does have lyme but just needs to pursue a different treatment approach. Maybe they could try the Zhang herbal protocol or the Cowden protocol. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to try another herbal protocol. I would be more cautious though if trying antibiotics, as they can cause harm.
