Healing Lyme
Astragalus – never indicated for late stage lyme?
with Stephen Harrod Buhner, master herbalist

herbs

Dear Stephen,
I’m interested in adding astragalus to my protocol. However “Healing Lyme” says it is contraindicated. I have “chronic lyme” plus many coinfections, including ehrlichia, babesia, and herpes simplex (for possibly 20+ years). The description in your book seems to cover many of my complaints including chronic fatigue, ehrlichia, chest pains, neuroborreliosis and more. Is it never indicated in late stage?

Stephen’s response:
You can try it and see how it works for you; none of this is written in stone. If you end up feeling worse, discontinue it.

Stephen

Hi, I am using the Byron White Formula’s and have just started A-L Complex for Lyme. One of the Herbs in A-L Complex is Astragalus although you state it should not be used in Chronic Lyme???

    Hi R Heslop,
A general response to your question, is that Stephen says that NOT taking astragalus with chronic lyme is NOT written in stone (see above response on this page) and so if you do badly on this formula, change it to something that does not include astragalus. You could also write to the company and ask if they will consider making one without astragalus as an option. You can find all of Stephen’s thoughts on taking astragalus with chronic lyme here: http://planetthrive.com/tag/astragalus/.

Please note that Stephen does not read comments posted in his column here and his Q & A column is closed for questions until May – we have a huge backlog of question to post so we are taking a winter break here at Planet Thrive. Stephen is still taking questions directly at his personal email – please click the appropriate link just beneath his photo in the upper right column on this page, if after reading the above columns I linked to for you, you are still wanting to dialogue with him.

    Best of luck! Julie
