Michael Jackson pretty much thought he was invincible, just like the rest of us I’m afraid. When you’re young you feel untouchable and most of us unscathed by health problems typically have behaviors and lifestyles that end up trashing our health.
Our body’s homeostasis depends on a delicate balance of nutrition, restorative sleep, and elimination of toxins. In our world today we don’t have much wiggle room when it comes to staying balanced because we are living in a toxic dump and being barraged by stressors from every direction. Everything we do has to have this in mind. The food that is readily available to us is not healthy for our bodies. It’s not really safe to go into most stores because the air is toxic, the products they sell are toxic, the food they sell is toxic. A sad but true state of affairs.
After we get sick, particularly with something like CFS we become more in tune to toxic stressors. We’re the canary in the coal mine, barometers for chemical and other stressors. But so many people who aren’t really sick but still feel symptoms of illness and disease still carry on toxic behaviors. I know this because I see it all the time. I’ve had people tell me that they are very fatigued all the time but they aren’t planning on changing anything as far as too much exercise and work. I know people who’ve heard me talk about elimination diets and gluten free diets but they don’t want to stop eating processed food. They’re not getting that you have to eliminate it completely, that it’s poison, and they don’t want to put in any effort. I know people who think that traditional western doctors walk on water and that going to the doctor is going to fix anything that might happen to them (little do they know!!!!).
When you get sick with CFS you have to rebuild your entire system and heal every cell in your body. A lot of this starts in the GI tract and that’s why I recommend elimination diets and massive probiotics supplements. I hear from people all the time who want to do whatever it takes to recover from their illness. The one thing I recommend right off the bat is to find an integrative doctor and get micro-nutrient testing along with testing of hormones. You need to see an MD because you most likely need to have prescriptions for hormones and B vitamin injections. The other reason I like integrative MDs is because their focus is on healing you, not medicating your symptoms. Integrative doctors also will help you get off toxic medication that is worsening your illness and preventing you from healing. They also are great cheerleaders and will encourage you to work hard at their treatment plan, not give up, and tell you continually that you can recover your health and your life.
It took me a long time to see an integrative doctor because I was concerned about the expense. So if you have the same concern you can talk to these doctors and ask them to give you a rundown on how much it will cost. Lab tests like Spectracell micro-nutrient testing are covered by insurance in most cases. Many doctors will work with you to try and get a plan in place that you can afford.
You can find an integrative MD by Googling “integrative physician your city or town and state.” When you call the office ask if they specialize in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Then, get ready to start recovering.
