This is such a perfect picture for pain, particularly for me because I suffer with terrible eye pain, and the demon playing the eyeball like an instrument pretty much says it all!
Ever since I started the hydrocortisone and human growth hormone and have been much, much more active, I’ve also gotten hammered with terrible joint and muscle pain. My CFS doctor told me to GO SLOW but I am apparently not going slow enough.
She also gave me this prescription for pain:
• Drink plenty of water
• Eat plenty of sea salt
• Eat plenty of greens (either lots of spinach/broccoli, every day or a greens powder)
• L-glutamine, 500 mg 2Xday on empty stomach
• L-carnitine, 1000 mg 1-2x/day
• D-ribose, 1-5gm/day
• Glucosamine Hyaluronic Acid Chondroitin MSM (Shellfish-Free) by Solgar
I’ve been doing all of this and also added the above supplement for joint health/pain after reading the following on Russell Blaylock newsletter:
The Dark Side of Pain Killing Medications
People often take painkillers at the first sign of pain, which is understandable since they offer quick relief. But painkillers do not cure aching hands or sore backs. What they do is mask the problem, and this comes with a high price! Before you take pain medications, here are some important facts you should know:
• “Properly prescribed” prescription and over-the-counter drugs kill more people each year than illegal drugs.
• Acetaminophen is #5 on the list of drugs associated with death from overdose, just behind morphine and oxycodone!
• Vioxx®, a prescription painkiller, was thought to be responsible for over 60,000 deaths before being banned.
• Recent research has shown that long-term use of ibuprofen actually makes your joints and cartilage weaker, not stronger.
• The government’s own studies have proven that a natural alternative with no side effects is actually more effective than a leading prescription pain medication!
Glucosamine and Chondroitin Are Not Enough
Scientists at the Institute for Joint Health Research, a division of Stop Aging Now, have spent years studying natural joint pain relief. They’ve discovered that long lasting benefits can only be obtained when a unique blend of 4 ingredients are combined at precise doses, including:
1. Hyaluronic Acid (100 mg): Creates “shock absorbing” synovial fluid around joints.
2. Glucosamine (1,500 mg): Helps prevent cartilage loss.
3. Chondroitin (1,200 mg): Rapidly regenerates new cartilage.
4. MSM (1,000 mg): Reduces painful inflammation.
For my eyes I have to cut my work hours in front of the computer, there’s just no way around this as I have literally done everything possible, hot compresses, lubricant at night, drops during the day, prism glasses. The supplements DO seem to be helping with my pain along with my increased conditioning.
I buy my supplements at the Professional Supplement Center because they have an amazing selection and free shipping.

Hi Nadine;
I have been tracking your story and really appreciate your sharing all you’ve been through and your tips and strategies for healing.
I am also a nurse, with autoimmune challenges and pretty bad MCS. On the issue of the hydrocortisone, I’m wondering if you could share (not specific name) what type of practitioner prescribes this for you. After struggling for over 5 years and having tried many, many things for the MCS, I’d like to be able to try low-dose hydrocortisone but cannot find anybody who will prescribe (either allopathic or alternative).
Any suggestions on that one please?
Many thanks for all you do!

Hi Rebecca, Nadine does not necessarily read the comments on her column here; to be sure she reads your question, please use the contact information provided on her blog. I was on hydrocortisone years ago and my environmental medicine physician prescribed it at my request. I would think that regular allopathic doctors might not understand the need for it and would be wary of prescribing it. I would recommend searching the The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) website for an MD who is a registered member and more likely to understand how low-dose hydrocortisone might be a useful tool with these neurotoxin illnesses. Use the member search feature in the upper left column, but make sure to call the office and ask questions before investing in a consultation. Good luck!

I developed eye pain, and after a week or so, I had my optometrist check it out. He ran me through a battery of tests and could not account for the pain. One night, lying in bed, unable to sleep for the pain, it occurred to me, for some reason, to try niacin. I got up, took the niacin, had the niacin flush, and the eye pain was gone, never to return.

I wish all my problems were that easy to solve.
