about me
At the age of 5 or 6, I underwent a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy and thereafter an unusual hemorrhage. I was not expected to survive and for 6 more years, I suffered from unusually heavy nosebleeds on a regular basis for which I was cauterized and developed a deviated septum. In the mid 1980s, I suffered a bout of mononucleosis and thereafter developed a world of fatigue issues from there on out. In 1990, I went hiking and camping in the Catskills Mountains and shortly thereafter discovered my first bullseye rash, but tested negative for Lyme Disease. In 1992, I suffered a lifting accident at work, injuring a few discs in my neck and started to experience tremendous pain. In 1995, I underwent a surgical procedure for intense abdominal pain and was found to have extensive adhesions, despite no previous abdominal surgery and no diagnosis of endometriosis. From 1995-1996, I was re-immunized with the Hepatitis B and MMR vaccines in order to gain employment in a NY hospital laboratory. I regularly walked past the chemotherapy/cancer unit in this hospital while working on my college senior thesis, studying the effects of fertility drugs on a particular hormone implicated in pregnancy. In the mid-90s, I was also prescribed a series of acid blocking drugs, including Propulsid. In 1997, I was rearended in a motor vehicle accident and took a further step into the world of pain I was already in. In the late 1990s, I swallowed a bunch of mercury from an overfilled and refilled cavity from a mercury-ignorant FL dentist who took my insurance...sigh. From 1998-2002, I took about 1,000 commercial flights (mostly for work purposes) throughout the USA and Canada. From 1999-2000 for 13 months, I lived in a FL apartment that was regularly sprayed inside with the cypermethrin pesticide aptly named "Demon." In 2001, I underwent a series of 3 epidural injections of Depo Medrol into my spine, which is actually not an FDA-approved treatment, but widely practiced the world over. On New Year's Eve 2001, I "celebrated" with a stiff Morphine drip after having undergone a TLIF back fusion of L5-S1 surgery with titanium hardware placed. I returned to the workforce in early March 2002. A month later, I discovered my second bullseye rash, acquired very close to Lyme, CT. By January 2003 and after many residence, city/state and job changes, trials and tribulations, I could no longer hold down any job due to my extreme fragrance and chemical sensitivities, pain and fatigue. I learned in May 2003 that I had a very low CD4 count which was headed towards non-HIV AIDS levels in addition to other immune system abnormalities. Most recently, I discovered I have a pineal gland cyst in my brain, a low CD57 count and Lyme Disease and suffer from occasional partial seizures. Throughout the above, I popped way too many prescription, OTC and antibiotic drugs, of course.

There are so many things that I am leaving out that may or may not have played a part in my current state of illness and I still struggle with which to blame and for being ignorant or turning a deaf ear towards the early naysayers and whistleblowers that have crossed my path in life.

Despite all my health challenges in life, I did push on and work hard and managed to accomplish things for which I am proud, like taking 5th place (in my division) in my first and only triathlon in 1998.
