Author Els Valkenburg recovers from MCSEls Valkenburg, a Dutch author known in the chemically sensitive community for her book Understanding Multiple Chemical Sensitivity has reported a complete recovery from chemical sensitivity after applying the Gupta Amygdala Retraining™ Program for 12 months. She has been living a life free from the limitations of chemical and electrical sensitivity, as well as food intolerances, for the past year, prior to announcing her recovery to the world.

Els has prepared a special page on her website detailing her recovery process and answering any questions one might have on how she did it.

After six years of living in isolation due to her severe case of environmental illness, Els shares that she is so grateful for the freedom she has now and feels every day is like a blessing. Although she says she looks back on her experience with chemical sensitivity as an amazing journey, she has plans for a new life that has nothing to do with the illness going forward. She will not be available to coach others through the process and has instead created this detailed web page to answer any questions people might have.

For more information on the brain retraining techniques Els used to recover and the concepts behind them, please see limbicretraining.com, a blog focused on recovery from chronic environmental illness using neural retraining techniques.

A big congratulations to Els on her recovery and chance for a beautiful new life free from the limitations of illness! A big thank you as well, for taking the time to share your recovery process so that others might be inspired and benefit from your journey.

I don’t think that my amygdala is giving me a wrong signal. Actually, I do not even know if it is the amygdala that is warning me when I smell strong chemical smells(like when I go by the open door of a nail polish place) letting me know that I can’t detoxify something. I’m grateful that I’ve retained that warning system so that I can stay out of harm’s way.

    Hi Lisa,
I’m just seeing your post now. I don’t understand when people say that the MCS signal is a healthy, correct signal. I am guessing you were not born with MCS. Most people develop MCS after a toxic injury, either acute or low dose long term exposure to toxic chemicals or mold. The point is that your brain has been injured and no longer functions the way it did for the first part of your life. Personally, I would rather have my brain function the way it did the first 30+ years of my life when I could wear clothing and sleep in a bed.

Those of us who experienced MCS are lucky enough to have been given that level of awareness that we can take with us into our future healthy lives. Now when you walk past a nail polish salon, you will know it is a toxic place because you have that awareness, and your nose will smell it But you don’t have to go into seizure or get a migraine or lose 2 days in bed because of it. Maybe you are saying you’d rather be sick than healthy? To each his own.
