re|shelter's Safe Oasis Grant ProgramFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) – Aug 08, 2012 –
Housing non-profit re|shelter has opened the doors to its Safe Oasis Grant Program beginning Wednesday, August 8. Applications will be accepted through August 31. Re|shelter will offer (5) small grants up to $2,000 each to eligible individuals whose ability to continue to live safely in their current home has been severely compromised by environmental intolerances. The program is only open to legal residents of the U.S. All grant monies awarded are required to be used for home and trailer renovations (including materials and labor), air quality improvement appliances, environmental testing, or towards the purchase of environmentally safer homes and trailers to be used as a primary residence. Grant recipients will be notified and checks will be mailed out no later than October 15, 2012.

Disabling environmental sensitivities can be caused by acute or low-grade chronic exposure to petrochemicals, pesticides and other commonly used synthetic chemicals, toxic mold, Borrelia burgdorferi (the spirochete that causes lyme disease), and other neurotoxins.

Grant criteria and applications can be found at reshelter.org/grant-programs.

Re|shelter is putting a call out to its supporters to help them double the $10,000 available in their Safe Oasis Grant Fund by September 30 so they can award more grants before the final grant decisions are made. All contributions to re|shelter between now and September 30 will be earmarked for the Safe Oasis Grant Program, which is only open to U.S. residents.

Re|shelter president Julie Genser shares, “There are thousands – if not millions – of environmental refugees across America and around the world, struggling to survive in an increasingly toxic world. They all suffer from severe, disabling environmental sensitivities that make finding safe housing nearly impossible. There just aren’t enough safe, affordable choices in today’s housing market. Re|shelter wants to change that, but we need your help. Please help us, so we in turn can help this marginalized and vulnerable population that has historically been ignored, maligned, and denied resources in just about every sector of our society.”

Earthwalker is the username that PT founder Julie Genser created for her online interactions so many years ago when first creating Planet Thrive.

Julie's (Earthwalker's) life was derailed over twenty years ago when she had a very large organic mercury exposure after she naively used a mouth thermometer to measure the temperature of just-boiled milk while making her very first pizza at home. The mercury instantly expanded into a gas form and exploded out the back of the thermometer right into her face. Unaware that mercury was the third most neurotoxic element on Earth, Julie had no idea she had just received a very high dose of a poisonous substance.

A series of subsequent toxic exposures over the next few years -- to smoke from two fires (including 9/11), toxic mold, lyme disease, and chemical injuries -- caused catastrophic damage to her health. While figuring out how to survive day-to-day, and often minute-to-minute, she created Planet Thrive to help others avoid some of the misdiagnoses and struggles she had experienced.

She has clawed her way over many health mountains to get to where she is today. She is excited to bring the latest iteration of Planet Thrive to the chronic illness community.

In 2019, Julie published her very first cookbook e-book called Low Lectin Lunches (+ Dinners, Too!) after discovering how a low lectin, gluten free diet was helping manage her chronic fascia/muscle pain.

Thank you for being here and I hope that you read my story and I will apply for that grant. I can only stay on the computer shorts periods of time so I will do my best.
