Dear Stephen,
I am very allergic to all antibiotics. Especially levaquin, cephalosporins and sulfur drugs. As well as all erythromycin and penicillin drugs. I can not even be in the same room with someone who has taken levaquin – within an hour or I get hives and shortness of breath. Is cryptolepis the same as levaquin and cipro? My LLMD prescribed it to me and I am concerned I will react to it. Will a person with known allergies to these antibiotics be safe using herbal antibiotics? I have to have them administered in ICU under desensitization. Thanks for any advice you can offer me.
Stephen’s response:
Cryptolepis is not similar to any of those drugs. Nevertheless, start with a few drops to see how you respond.

Stephen Harrod Buhner was an Earth poet and an award-winning author of twenty-four books on nature, indigenous cultures, the environment, and herbal medicine including the acclaimed book Healing Lyme: Natural Healing & Prevention of Lyme Borreliosis & Its Co-infections.
Stephen came from a long line of healers including Leroy Burney, Surgeon General of the United States under Eisenhower and Kennedy, and Elizabeth Lusterheide, a midwife and herbalist who worked in rural Indiana in the early nineteenth century. The greatest influence on his work, however, was his great-grandfather C.G. Harrod who primarily used botanical medicines, also in rural Indiana, when he began his work as a physician in 1911.
Stephen’s work has appeared or been profiled in publications throughout North America and Europe including Common Boundary, Apotheosis, Shaman’s Drum, The New York Times, CNN, and Good Morning America. Stephen lectured yearly throughout the United States on herbal medicine, the sacredness of plants, the intelligence of Nature, and the states of mind necessary for successful habitation of Earth.
He was a tireless advocate for the reincorporation of the exploratory artist, independent scholar, amateur naturalist, and citizen scientist in American society – especially as a counterweight to the influence of corporate science and technology.

Hi Mr. Buhner, thanks for your remarkably organized and easy to understand book, Healing Lyme. I have Lyme, Bartonella, Burella and something in my gut my naturopath has not yet identified. I’ve been infected for 45 years. Now I have Lyme carditis block, so I’m a pretty sick girl. What has your experience been in treating this? I’ve been in treatment for over a year for Lyme and co-infections. At first I began to improve and got better (my kidneys stopped failing) but then I began to decline, and now the carditis block. I’d appreciate any thoughts you might have.
I hope you are better! Stephen. Buhner is no longer replying here. Your situation is why this Lyme Treatment debacle must change. Prayers for you to find healp and healing!
