Dear Stephen,
After trying everything for years I am hoping to get rid of my European and American babesia (B. divergens and B. microti) with cryptolepis. I have also been using Byron Whites’ ABAB which makes me in need of super amounts of sleep. Can I combine the two? And will I ever get over being in need of 14 hours of sleep with ABAB? What is the best way of getting rid of super babesia? Thank you.
Stephen’s response:
Yes, you can use them together. For that kind of babesia I would recommend a combination tincture formula of
Alchornea cordifolia, cryptolepis, and
Sida acuta which you can get from
Woodland Essence. For you I would suggest ¼ tsp 3x daily for 30 days. You can increase the dosage to ½ tsp if it seems necessary. If you really want to go at it from all directions I would recommend adding artemisinin tablets as well for 30 days.

Stephen Harrod Buhner was an Earth poet and an award-winning author of twenty-four books on nature, indigenous cultures, the environment, and herbal medicine including the acclaimed book Healing Lyme: Natural Healing & Prevention of Lyme Borreliosis & Its Co-infections.
Stephen came from a long line of healers including Leroy Burney, Surgeon General of the United States under Eisenhower and Kennedy, and Elizabeth Lusterheide, a midwife and herbalist who worked in rural Indiana in the early nineteenth century. The greatest influence on his work, however, was his great-grandfather C.G. Harrod who primarily used botanical medicines, also in rural Indiana, when he began his work as a physician in 1911.
Stephen’s work has appeared or been profiled in publications throughout North America and Europe including Common Boundary, Apotheosis, Shaman’s Drum, The New York Times, CNN, and Good Morning America. Stephen lectured yearly throughout the United States on herbal medicine, the sacredness of plants, the intelligence of Nature, and the states of mind necessary for successful habitation of Earth.
He was a tireless advocate for the reincorporation of the exploratory artist, independent scholar, amateur naturalist, and citizen scientist in American society – especially as a counterweight to the influence of corporate science and technology.

Hi Stephen,
I am a nursing mom of a 1 year old. I was diagnosed with Lyme in 2011. I am hoping to find a safe herbal treatment for ongoing symptoms, while breastfeeding. Do you have any recommendations? I am very comfortable with herbs, and have a strong intuition when it comes to using herbs safely, but could use some extra support.
Thanks & Peace,
Lynsey

Hi
I seem to have everything…babesia..lungworm, is there a formula I can take that addresses all or do I need to attack each one separately.
Hi Kathy,
The Q & A is currently on hiatus. I don’t know what is in all of the updated protocols for all the infections you have, but I would think you could go through all of Stephen’s recommendations for the various bacterias and make one formula for yourself by deleting duplicate herbs. For example, if he recommends 1 TBS Sida acuta 3x day for one infection and it is also recommended at 1 tsp 3x day for another, I would just take 1 TBS 3x day. That would be one way to go about it. You can ask Stephen by writing to him via his website gaianstudies.org but he gets so many emails I’m not sure if he can answer people individually anymore. There is a Buhner Healing Lyme group on Facebook you can also try asking on. Best wishes, Julie
Hi
I have Lyme, tough strain of Bart and we suspect but waiting on results, Babesia (classic symptoms or air hunger sweats chills).
Currently on Rifampin 600 1xday and minocycline 100 2xday. What do you recommend for herbs for Babesia and can I take with the antibiotics I’m on and the antibiotics my Dr is likely to prescribe?
I also ordered the LB core protocol but haven’t started yet. Waiting to see response from current meds.
Thanks
Hi John,
The Buhner Healing Lyme Q & A is no longer open to new questions. You can search the archives for past Q & As, check our protocols page, and read Stephen’s book on Babesia to find the answers to your question. Best, Julie
Hi John, you can download Stephen’s co-infection book from Amazon (if you have a kindle reader or app). It’s excellent.
The core protocol mentioned here is just the start – you will find many more useful suggestions in the co-infection book, some of which you could start today, such as L-Arginine – it’s easily sourced from health food shops.
