Dear Stephen,
My mother has what the doctors called “Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus” (MRSA) that has been there for a year. She tried treating it with the allopathic method to no avail. We have also tried tea tree oil, and golden seal. I just ordered some of the cryptolepis tincture from Woodland Essence. She started it today. I was wondering if you have a “recommended dose” for treatment of MRSA. I told her 15 drops 2 or 3 times a day. I was also wondering how long to keep her on it, and should I have her use it topically on the spots on her back, along with the internal? She is 45 and in pretty good health otherwise. I am a big fan of your writing style, and all you have to say. I have been brought to tears numerous times while reading your work. I am a student of herbal medicine at MCTC in Minneapolis, and your Lost Language of Plants was part of our class text, thank you! Your insight and your time is greatly appreciated.

Stephen’s response:
Depends on how bad it is. I generally recommend that those who have a resistant strain that has not responded to antibiotics use 1 tsp 3x daily until it clears, usually 30 days minimum. I have seen a really difficult case need 1 tbl 3x daily for two weeks until it cleared.

  • Stephen Harrod Buhner

Stephen Harrod Buhner was an Earth poet and an award-winning author of twenty-four books on nature, indigenous cultures, the environment, and herbal medicine including the acclaimed book Healing Lyme: Natural Healing & Prevention of Lyme Borreliosis & Its Co-infections.

Stephen came from a long line of healers including Leroy Burney, Surgeon General of the United States under Eisenhower and Kennedy, and Elizabeth Lusterheide, a midwife and herbalist who worked in rural Indiana in the early nineteenth century. The greatest influence on his work, however, was his great-grandfather C.G. Harrod who primarily used botanical medicines, also in rural Indiana, when he began his work as a physician in 1911.

Stephen’s work has appeared or been profiled in publications throughout North America and Europe including Common Boundary, Apotheosis, Shaman’s Drum, The New York Times, CNN, and Good Morning America. Stephen lectured yearly throughout the United States on herbal medicine, the sacredness of plants, the intelligence of Nature, and the states of mind necessary for successful habitation of Earth.

He was a tireless advocate for the reincorporation of the exploratory artist, independent scholar, amateur naturalist, and citizen scientist in American society – especially as a counterweight to the influence of corporate science and technology.

This protocol was incredible. After only a few weeks most of my symptoms were gone. After six months all my symptoms were gone… it has given me my life back.
