After my second lyme infection, I started to cough often. I cough mostly when my throat is irritated, often after swallowing supplements and eating. I also cough at other times especially due to irritation. Why could coughs be related to lyme and what to do about them? Thank you.
We see coughs more commonly with bartonella than lyme. We normally suggest the use of elderberry elixir, as needed, horehound can help, and if it is bartonella we recommend the use of sida acuta tincture (you can get it from woodlandessence.com or [email protected]). Hope this helps.

Stephen came from a long line of healers including Leroy Burney, Surgeon General of the United States under Eisenhower and Kennedy, and Elizabeth Lusterheide, a midwife and herbalist who worked in rural Indiana in the early nineteenth century. The greatest influence on his work, however, was his great-grandfather C.G. Harrod who primarily used botanical medicines, also in rural Indiana, when he began his work as a physician in 1911.
Stephen’s work has appeared or been profiled in publications throughout North America and Europe including Common Boundary, Apotheosis, Shaman’s Drum, The New York Times, CNN, and Good Morning America. Stephen lectured yearly throughout the United States on herbal medicine, the sacredness of plants, the intelligence of Nature, and the states of mind necessary for successful habitation of Earth.
He was a tireless advocate for the reincorporation of the exploratory artist, independent scholar, amateur naturalist, and citizen scientist in American society – especially as a counterweight to the influence of corporate science and technology.
I’ve been heavily in health food/herbalism for decades, and have recently discovered that I’ve had chronic Lyme and Mycoplasma P. (probably since a tetanus shot in 1976–long story). Anyway, to make a very complicated story short, I have used herbs, diet and antibiotics to treat these diseases for nearly 2 years, but not until nebulizing prescription peroxide/saline solution and a certain silver protein (sold by VRP), which were prescribed by my doctor, have I made any headway with these diseases. It was recently discovered that I may also have one of the many types of “lungworm” that are often transmitted when one gets lyme. I have just been treated by Ivermectin (with no side effects) for the lungworms, but before that, I had a very strange thing give me fantastic relief from that nasty dry cough and tickle in the throat that I’ve had on-and-off for decades. One day, while shopping at Whole Foods, although I haven’t otherwise consumed coffee for 2 decades, my INTUITIVE husband suggested out of the blue that I chew on some of their organic dark roast coffee beans that are sold in bulk. Well, a few minutes after I chewed them, I GOT HUGE RELIEF FROM THE FREAKIN DRY COUGH. The unsuspecting coffee beans relaxed my throat and helped me to breathe calmly for the first time in a long time. Go figure???
