Treating Coxiella burnetti (Q fever)

Dear Stephen,
I tested positive for both coxiella and the epstein barr virus a while back, and I have a skin infection on my face only. My doctor says that the coxiella was a cross reaction. I didn’t test positive for lyme disease but I have coxiella. I tried antibiotics and other natural cures. Currently I’m trying your protocol. It turns out that my coxiella is not a cross reaction, because your protocol is helping me. I have a chest infection. Should I do your protocol to treat Coxiella burnetti? I’m suffering with this for 20 years now and I am 51 years old. I’m living in Lisbon (Portugal) and I was born in Angola. Thank you and best regards.
Stephen’s response:
The lyme protocol will help in treating coxiella. I haven’t, however, done a lot with that particular coinfection. Many of the symptoms are similar to lyme and the knotweed will help a lot. I would suggest you also add one of the sida species plants to the protocol. (1/2 tsp of the tincture, 3x daily for 60 days). They are common as weeds in Portugal, it doesn’t matter which species you get. It is best as a tincture. I would also suggest you use rhodiola tincture if you can find it AND eleutherococcus tincture. All this should help a lot.

This protocol was incredible. After only a few weeks most of my symptoms were gone. After six months all my symptoms were gone… it has given me my life back.

I have been diagnosed with Chronic Q Fever (Coxiella burnetti) since 2006. I am 49 and my q fever titers are higher than they have ever been. I have been treated with Doxycycline and Plaquenil for 18 months to try and circumvent Endocarditis. But my titer levels suggest it is attacking my heart, further testing to be completed.

Would you please recommend a remedy to help me?

Some people are using hyperbaric oxygen therapy and ozonation of the blood for chronic tick borne infections – there is a new clinic starting up in Cyprua. Also there is a trial of ti tree oil that has had its monoterpenes removed to make it safe for human consumption. Its approved by the TGA in Australia caled M.A.C melaleuca alternifolia concentrate. Some lyme literate doctors swear by it for clearing co infections and biofilms.

    Hi Stephen-

Your site is amazing, thank you for your effort, passion and availability. I have been sick since 2011 with: Lyme, bartonella, EBV at one point, also rabbit fever that presented in my biofilm, as I suddenly tested positive during treatment. In 2013 it began to affect my brain; I now have the lesions on the brain and myelin sheath degeneration, short term memory loss, severe brain fog, dizziness and overall cognitive decline, irritability!, as well as nerve burning pain in my head. I ended up in a treatment facility last Sept – Feb and sat on an IV for 5.5 months, 5 days a week. I am doing much better; however my brain is still compromised, which is where all of my issues remain. Can the myelin sheath heal eventually? I have not started your protocol as of yet, but I want to keep moving forward. What route do you recommend for me with regard to your core protocol? I have read great success stories about those you have helped and am really concerned about healing my brain.

    Hi Kate,
The Q & A column is closed to new questions. Stephen has retired from answering questions here. I would suggest you read the second edition of Healing Lyme and start the Core Protocol, adding in herbs recommended in the book for your specific symptoms. A lot of people do see improvement over time. You may need to ramp up slowly with the doses. I did a search on the site for “myelin sheath” and found these past Q & As, maybe they will be of help to you: Myelin sheath support, Neuropathy caused by tick-born infection and Bartonella, lyme and polyneuropathy in child. Best wishes, Julie
