Bartonella protocol explained

Dear Stephen,
I am currently on the Sida acuta/hawthorn/etc. protocol for bartonella. Can you please describe briefly what each herb does? Is there any point in taking this protocol for more than 30 days, and if so, for how long can I stay on this protocol?
Stephen’s response:
Sida is a systemic antibiotic (described in depth in the new, very long, expanded edition of Herbal Antibiotics, just now out). It is specific for protecting red blood cells from bartonella organisms which invade the cells themselves. The bacteria also causes endothelial hyperplasia, so some of the herbs are specifically protective of the endothelial layer (erythromycin will also do this), the bacteria often impacts the heart which the hawthorn protects, and the liver which the milk thistle protects. The bacteria also causes specific inflammations in the body which a number of the other herbs are designed to counteract.
Stephen

This protocol was incredible. After only a few weeks most of my symptoms were gone. After six months all my symptoms were gone… it has given me my life back.

Stephen Buhner uses TBL to stand for tablespoon. Apologies for the confusion! I believe you would mix the powder into water or a drink…or take with food.

    Stephen,
I have been on the 10 tinctures and 5 pills in your Bartonella & Mycoplasma book, for the Bartonella protocol. I was on it 3x per day for 2 weeks, then stopped for about 10 days due to having to wake and urinate ever 90 minutes through the night. I tried once per day for 2 days, but could tell when the herbs were wearing off and hence not doing the job. I tried twice per day and that almost worked. On my 5th day back I am trying to take he herbs every 8 hours but when I do, I have a lot of burning on urination. I have not been tested for Bartonella, but two ingredients in your protocol I have been taking and both helped me to feel better and have more energy. I have been taking Longevinex (Japanese Knotweed) and Adrenal Support from Beyond Health (contains Rhodiola and Magnolia Officinalis). I also take Armour Thyroid (90 mg/day, divided dose, before breakfast and before dinner) and the Adrenal support seems to “spread out” the energy I get from the thyroid pills. Is there anything I can do about the burning? I worry about my kidneys and liver but may not need to.
