Dear Stephen,
I am the mother of a 4 year old. He had a bite and bull’s eye last summer and was treated with amoxicillin for 2 weeks only…with no herbs, just a whole foods diet. This summer he had a bite, without a bull’s eye, but a Western blot test showed 7/11 antibodies present. He is currently on amoxicillin again, but I don’t know how long to treat. It’s been 2 weeks….do I push for a full 30 days? Also, if I wanted to incorporate astragalus, Japanese knotweed, and cat’s claw…are all these 100% safe for a 4 year old, and if yes, do I do them all in one day or alternate days? One herb per day on a rotation schedule? Lastly, I was told to get the lumbrokinase to break down the biofilm, wait an hour do the antibiotic, and then after another hour do the pectin to help the body release the toxins. Is this helping or a waste of $$? Thanks so much in advance for your time. I’m a desperate mother wanting to do what’s best!!

Stephen’s response:
I would just use astragalus now, every day, 1000 mg daily. It is often useful to use homeopathic ledum and homeopathic apis at the beginning for three days as in the book. Not sure the other things are needed right now.
Stephen

This protocol was incredible. After only a few weeks most of my symptoms were gone. After six months all my symptoms were gone… it has given me my life back.

As a mother of 2 young children who have both become infected I appreciate this post and multiple people have referred me to it. How long is it recommended to treat with astragalus?

my daughter age 4 was recently bitten by a tick and wasnt on her more then 24 hours before i removed it. As soon as i removed it i kept the tick and called my pediatrician. To my surprise they wouldnt see her nor give her any meds. They told me i had to “sit and wait” 30 days! i was furious lyme disease is very serious and the fact doctors arent taking it serious especially with our children theres a problem. So i followed my mommy instincts did some research and found a lyme literate MD in my area which was NOT easy hardly any which is crazy. The dr immidately tested the tick and sure enough it came back positive for lyme! HUGE scare because her own pediatrician wouldnt do anything! Thank god for the lyme literate MD we found she put her amoxicillian right away abnd for a full 30 days as soon as its out of her system we will be doing a western blot to make sure nothing is still in her. People and especially doctors need to WAKE up this is serious and were supposed to be protecting our children who dont have a voice.

My 4 year old has had to tick bites in the last 30 days. Two weeks ago he was diagnosed with “allergies” now he has a “virus” according to his doctor. He’s had a low grade fever for three days, complaining of a headache, chills, loss of appetite and totally distracted and inattentive.

Get the book Primal Panacea by Dr. Levy. It can be a life saver.

Janice, unfortunately that is exactly how Lyme presents in the early stages. I would follow Buhner. We didn’t antbx for my 4 year old right after bullseye confirmed and it does not cure Lyme as so falsely believed.

My 4 month old daughter just got bite by a tick a week ago. It was on her less than 2 hours on her belly. Doctor say she should be fine just watch her for the next 30 days for a rash or fever. Can I do anything for her? This momma is paranoid

    Hi Carmen,
Stephen does not answer questions here anymore. We have never had a question about a child this young. You might try asking him on Facebook, or finding a skilled herbalist familiar with lyme and infants to ask. In a past response from Stephen (https://buhnerhealinglyme.com/herbs/eleuthero-as-preventive-for-small-kids/) he wrote “I rarely give anything to children and then only if they can’t seem to shake it by themself. Their immune systems are pretty strong and so it takes less to throw off an infection and less to support immune health.” I also would wonder about taking something yourself if you are still breastfeeding. Please try contacting Stephen via Facebook or his website http://www.gaianstudies.org/Contact.html. Let us know what you find out, it can help others who come to this website for answers. Best wishes! Julie

My family just moved to a Lyme hotspot yet each pediatrician I’ve visited for my 3.5 Year old treats it as if it’s the least worrisome issue.
My son was bit beginning of August, we got him on 14 days of doxycycline because of a twitch that he developed after we noticed a bullseye rash (never saw a tick THAT TIME) so we did doxycycline and a whole intensive herbal detox protocol, nothing helped with the twitch until we met with a Doctor Who prescribed a nano silver it helped lessen the twitch but then on opening day of hunting season my husband harvested a deer brought home a tick and the tick found my son! His twitching symptoms intensified the following night! I have him on astragalus and everything else I know to do…does anybody have any insight any recommendations?
