Dear Stephen,
I just discovered your book after completing 21 days of antibiotics. It is a fantastic resource. I’m guessing I was infected about 4 months ago. My symptoms (fever, muscle aches, night sweats, swollen lymph node and surrounding area) were mild and began going away on their own. I was almost symptom-free when I was diagnosed and began taking antibiotics. Even though I am now symptom-free, I feel that it is wise to use your protocol. My question is how long would you recommend I use the protocol and should I use all recommended herbs? Thank you, in advance, for your thoughts.

Stephen’s response:
Astragalus 3000 mg daily for 30 days, then 1000 mg thereafter as a preventative. Knotweed and cat’s claw are the first herbs after that that I would use. For lymph nodes, red root tincture. But it sounds as if the astragalus is all you need.

The greatest influence on his work, however, was his great-grandfather C.G. Harrod who primarily used botanical medicines, also in rural Indiana, when he began his work as a physician in 1911.

He was a tireless advocate for the reincorporation of the exploratory artist, independent scholar, amateur naturalist, and citizen scientist in American society – especially as a counterweight to the influence of corporate science and technology.

This protocol was incredible. After only a few weeks most of my symptoms were gone. After six months all my symptoms were gone… it has given me my life back.

    Dear Stephen,
My doctor did an I Spot Lyme test and did the Western Blot. The I spot came back positive for Antibodies but the Western Blot came back totally non reactive. I am not sick at this time and am wondering do I need to treat the Lyme. I received 10 months of High Dose Vitamin C at 20 grams every two weeks. I feel much better now and have more energy than I have had for a few years.

Thank you for any information you can give me.

    Dear Stephen,
It is 2016 and I wonder if you are still replying to these questions. Related to the topic here, my husband has no symptoms but discovered a large tick (looks like a deer tick) attached to him, we don’t know how many days. I am VERY familiar w Lyme and many of the herbs, having had it for 15 years. However i don’t know if Astragalus (for new tick bites) is enough to prevent infection while we wait for the doctor appt which is not for another 48-72 hours since discovering the tick. We are sure the doc will prescribe antibiotics. Husband is traveling and can’t get to doc till then anyway.
What suggestions for dose of astragalus and shoud we add another herb?
Would you agree not to take antibiotics at the same time as other herbs ( concerns for liver)?
We have tic tox in the house (the European remedy with mostly secret ingredients but i have an almost complete list). Wondering if he can take that at the same time as abx? again concern for the liver and over-detoxing.
We also have some homeopathic borrelia in different strenths but this is 2016 and there are more bacterias out there now so that would only treat one.
    Thanks
    Kathy R

I discovered a deer tick attached to me on January 20. Did not know what is was, and thought I had scratched a small mole on my abdomen, and that it was still partially attached. The area was red, and I was experiencing a very deep “ache” at the site. Treated with neosporin until Jan. 23, when I went to the Dr., as it was not responding to the neosporin. It was a deer tick, and the Dr. removed it. It was embedded for 4, possibly 6 days. I was given 200mg of Doxy, and told to watch for symptoms of the flu. I was told to be in touch if I experienced these symptoms.
I have read so much varying information about everything related to Lyme’s. I would like to know what your recommendations would be at this time. Of course, I do not have symptoms as of yet, and may not have been infected, but I understand that I might avert the disease by prophalactic treatment. Please advise! Scared!

    Hi Nancy,
The Buhner Healing Lyme Q & A is closed to new questions, but you can search our archives for information on new tick bites here: https://buhnerhealinglyme.com/category/transmission/recent-bites/. It’s my understanding that one needs a 6 week course of doxycycline if bitten by a tick with lyme spirochetes. Maybe your doctor was being conservative since you did not have any symptoms. There are herbs you can take to help reduce the risk of getting lyme disease. I would also recommend checking on the LymeNet forum (http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi) to see if they recommend taking a 6 week course of doxy if you don’t have any symptoms. You can also choose to get tested for lyme but I think it may take time to develop antibodies.

My son is 12 and 2 years ago Was tildvhe had Lyme in his blood work. The dr says to use deep immune by st Francis herbs. Didn’t recommend antibiotics as it was longer than 60 days out of bite. My son only had a bit of unusual symptoms ahd we weren’t even sure if he had Lyme disease. He gets lots of clue but doesn’t have joint psi or anything else that Lyme indicates. He has had an early start in puberty and has gone from a full head of thick hair to a lot thinner but we don’t know why? It’s very frustrating. The Lyme literate dr we saw was very cold ahd I compassionate. I tried to get answers from my own naturopathic dr ahd he treated my son with iv vitamins ahd support for immune system. I need to find a Luke literate doctor . Can I use astragalus? I was told that CBD oil for treatment. Any advice? So grateful for help?
    Thank you

Hi Stephen, I live in Melbourne, Australia. They fiercely deny lyme exists here. I was bitten by an unidentified insect in July 2018 – the bite spread out to an 8 inch red radius. I have since developed ADHD symtoms and been diagnosed with ADHD by a psychiatrist – brain fog, extremely sore neck and lower back, constant fatigue, problems sleeping etc. I’ve had reoccurring strep throat since then too. I have been able to function and work still (hence it not occurring to me until now that it could be lyme) albeit dragging my tired painful carcass around! No sore swollen elbows or knees though. As they don’t test for lyme disease here in Australia it’s not going to be possible for me to get a test or diagnosis. I’m thinking I should start on your herbal protocol and see if I see any improvement. Would you recommend I use the standard protocol for lyme?
