Using allicin/allimed with herbs

by | Mar 29, 2013 | Columns, Healing Lyme, Herbs, miscellaneous | 16 comments

Dear Stephen,
I’ve just received a diagnosis of lyme after 17 years of health issues. In Australia the disease isn’t recognized so information on treatment options is scarce. What are your thoughts on using allimed (concentrated allicin, a compound extracted from garlic) with your protocol? I read about a clinical trial which resulted in participants being cured of lyme after 3 months (not sure if this is a scam or not!). Will using allimed interfere with anything in your protocol?

Stephen’s response:
You can use it; it won’t interfere.
Stephen

This protocol was incredible. After only a few weeks most of my symptoms were gone. After six months all my symptoms were gone… it has given me my life back.

I tried this Allimed for four months and didn’t help.
Anybody wanting to try this, ask the manufacturer for a copy of the results of their study. It is not available from their website which should tell something.
    Good luck.

Thanks, that’s what I suspected and have been ploughing the net for this answer, all I see is people raving about it, but no one reports back a cure.

For years, I have used a quality freeze-dried garlic (Biopure is a good brand, but the main thing is that it is freeze-dried), because I found that this and teasel were the only two supplements that knocked out my Lyme arthritis symptoms. I am now using two caps three times a day along with the core protocol, and have had great results. If your Lyme is arthritic in nature, perhaps it will help you as well.

I have had chronic Lymes for at least 40 years, and have done all the antibiotics….still am doing antibiotics. I thought to try some herbs, but many are contra-indicated because of blood thinner use and beta-blocker use. Is there anything I may safely use?

I have heard many people try Dr. Zhang’s Allicin. Some of my friends say that it works and it is highly recommended but is has a really strong garlic smell. They purchase it from HepaPro in Irvine, CA. May want to check it out. I also found out from my friends that Dr. Zhang practices in New York. He can be reached at 212.573.9584. Maybe this information is useful. Thought I would share.

I have already had one herx with Dr. Zhang’s allicin, but only when used in conjunction with HH2. I went undiagnosed for over a decade.

Dr. Zhang’s formulas are strong, but I am not sure if Buhner’s general herb sources are strong enough to kill the organism.

I have had Lyme for 27 years and have tried all kinds of natural remedies like oregano oil, olive leaf, etc. I personally can tell you that garlic will help a little with high blood pressure. Mine at it’s worst was 210/120 before the doctor put me on prescription meds, but it will not get rid of Lyme. I’ve been taking it daily for 6 years now.

Allimax, Our son took 2 Allimax capsules am and pm and they helped for some time.

    hello

what is in the HH2 ? and the zhang allicin?

    thank you

HH2 is houtuynia. Allicin is a garlic component.

Samento drops (rain forest herb) from Nutriscene can also be helpful for Lyme Disease. With one patient, good results were obtained with a combined treatment approach using Samento, a modern spagyric homeopathic drainage remedy (Toex from Pekana), a selected probiotic (Saccharomyces Boulardii) and an immune system support preparation (Immiflex from New Vistas). Allitech (a garlic derived preparation) from Dulwich Health was also included subsequently. Treatment was selected with vegatesting. With this type of bio-electro-regulatory approach, treatment protocols vary between individuals, which makes meaningful controlled clinical trials virtually impossible to carry out.

Some people have very bad effects from floriquinolones such as Gemifloxacin. The damage can be permanent and quite debilitating…worse than the Lyme. If herbs can do the work without the side effects of those powerful ABx, why not go with that first? ABX probably best if you are catching the Lyme at an early point right after a tick bite. Just my opinion.

I’d like to say that Allimed — (stabilized allicin — may or may not be possibly close to Zhang’s version — has helped me tremendously with Lyme. In 2009 I had acute Lyme and was following Buhner’s protocol of the time, but it wasn’t until I added Allimed in increasing dosage that I saw a difference and finally came out of it. Since then I’ve used it each time I’ve gotten acute lyme. And I no longer feel like I have chronic lyme. Allimed (now called Allimax Pro) is a stabilized version of allicin — an alkaline forming sulfur compound (the original antibiotic used before post-war inventions) and while I can’t be sure I suspect spirochetes hate an alkaline environment. I also think it might help to bust the biofilm barrier (of course that’s anecdotal). The one other thing I add when doing this is trying to follow a vegetarian diet (anti-inflammatory. (I think spirochetes feed on the acid…)

Thanks NikiP, glad to find a respose in this thread that is more directly related to the original question. I too have been on a variant of Buhner’s (2016) Protocol for the last 2.5 years. When I add Allimax or one of the other allisure (R) stabilized garlic supplements to my regimen it definitely has kicked-up a herx reaction for me. I’m getting ready to try a longer round of the higher dose 450 mg Allimed caps and see how I respond. Will try to report back if results are favorable.

Hey… I am currently taking Allimed and was just wondering how you took yours when you did it with the dosage and how many your currently taking.. right now I am taking 1 pill twice a day and will do that for 3-4 days then move up to 1 pill 3 times a day etc..? did u do something like this?

  16. Chrissy K.

Hi Matthew, I have taken the Allimed twice now. Once when I first contracted lyme, and currently as my lyme has resurfaced. My husband is also taking the Allimed for the first time for chronic lyme. I start with one pill 2x/day, then 1 pill 3x/day, then 2 pills for first dosage of day (followed by 1 pill at noon, then 1 pill at eve) for a few days, then 2pills 2x/day, etc. I introduce the upped dosage very slowly! The last time I took the Allimed I was on the liquid, but now taking pills and will probably go up to 3-4 pills 3x/day before backing back down. I take it in conjunction with the Buhner protocol (Dragon Botanicals) and also wildcraft my own knotweed as it grows everywhere here on Martha’s Vineyard. Best of luck. You can get better from lyme!
