Trevor G. Marshall, PhDControversial and demanding protocol that was originally developed for treating the symptoms of the “Th1” inflammatory disease sarcoidosis, and now being used with some success by patients with chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, lupus, lyme disease, and other chronic environmental and autoimmune diseases.

From the website MarshallProtocol.com:

“The Marshall Protocol is a curative treatment for diseases having a TH1 type immune response. Patients having been diagnosed with one or more of a wide range of diseases have been successfully treated using this protocol. It works by enabling the immune system to destroy the intracellular bacteria that are thought to be the root cause of the illness.

An ARB (angiotensin II receptor blocker) medication, Benicar, is taken, and sunlight, bright lights and foods and supplements with vitamin D are diligently avoided. This enables the body’s immune system, with the help of small doses of antibiotics, to destroy the intracellular bacteria. It can take approximately one to three years to destroy all the bacteria.

The specific disease diagnosis is not as important as the results of a D-Metabolites blood test along with clinical assessments by a knowledgable MD in determining whether you can be successfully treated with the Marshall Protocol.

The Th1 inflammatory diseases are characterized by the generation of Interferon-gamma and with it, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin-D in response to intracellular bacteria.

Th1 inflammatory diseases currently being treated with the Marshall Protocol include:

  • ALS (Lou Gerhig’s) see notes below
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis
  • CFS / CFIDS / ME /
  • Chronic Lyme/Borreliosis
  • Crohn’s Disease
  • Diabetes type II
  • FM (Fibromyalgia)
  • Lofgren’s syndrome
  • Lupus In ‘Overlap’ With Other Connective Tissue Diseases
  • MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity)
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Parkinsons
  • Psoriasis
  • Psoriatic Arthritis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Sarcoidosis
  • Scleroderma
  • Sjogren’s

SAFETY WARNING TO ALL

Combining other protocols with the Marshall Protocol (MP) is contraindicated.

Do NOT take Benicar with any other antibiotics or antifungals or antimetabolites. It can be dangerous to do that. Benicar can potentiate the action of these drugs.”

I’m wondering if anyone has successfully done this or knows anyone who has? (for MCS)

Hey, Jill, I’ve been doing the MP for 1 year. I started the MP after I read many of the member’s stories, and found that some who’d started for a acknowledged “auto-immune” disease had their osteoarthritis resolve. There are several people on the MP who list MCS as one of the diagnoses.

Doing the MP is very rigorous, requires lifestyle changes, and you will feel worse before you feel better. I strongly suggest you read and study it, both sides, before you make a decision about it. I read about it for more than 6 years before starting. You will find lots of folks who disparage the MP without fully understanding it, or who dislike having their assumptions challenged. Many of these articles are older, and haven’t caught up with recent scientific studies which, more and more, bolster the theories behind the MP.

    Decide for yourself.
