Correct dosage for LB Core + LB Tonic Protocols

by | Sep 6, 2017 | Columns, CORE PROTOCOL, Healing Lyme, Herbs | 46 comments

Dear Stephen,
If one is following your lyme protocol, what is the correct dosage to take of the Green Dragon Botanicals LB Core Protocol and LB Tonic Protocol capsules?

Stephen’s response:

The proper dosage of Green Dragon Botanicals’ LB Core Protocol and LB Tonic Protocol (both containing a blend of knotweed, cat’s claw, etc.) is 9-12 capsules 3x daily — NOT 3 capsules 3-4x daily. Because they are blends of multiple herbs, you need to increase the dose to account for the dilution of so many herbs.

Stephen

This protocol was incredible. After only a few weeks most of my symptoms were gone. After six months all my symptoms were gone… it has given me my life back.

Wow. It’d be nice if Green Dragon updated their dosage instructions (on the bottle) to reflect this!

  2. Susanne

And what about the correctbdosage for the core protocol tincture? How many teaspoons a day? I can`t find this info anywhere….
    Can anyone help please?

  3. michelle c frankie

IM confused as to why you buy both..the herbs like identical

  4. Paul Sammons

They also have this mixture in tincture form.. What dose would you recommend for that?

  5. Jayne

Do you take these with food?

How long should a person be on the LB Core Protocol. Should usage cease if lymphs in the throat flare and head feels congested with use?

  7. Laurie Fitzpatrick

I am just meeting with my naturopathic doctor tomorrow to start out on the buhner protocol. I have neurological symptoms like dizziness, balance issues, numbness hands and legs and was wondering what are the first herbs I should be starting out with. I also have erchlicia co-infection.

    Hi Laurie,
The core protocol is always the place to start. Please refer to the Healing Lyme book for herbs to address your other specific symptoms. You can also search our archives to find past answers to similar questions. Best, Julie

  9. Valerie

In the book many dosages are recommended as tinctures, but then it is recommended to make your own or to buy bulk powders for obvious cost savings. Where can I find the recommended powder doses for Chinese Skullcap, Eluthero, Kudzu, Red Sage, etc?

    Thank you!

  10. healing lyme admin

    Hi Valerie,
You can try searching the archives to see if those dosages have been discussed in past Q & As. You can also search the dosage section: https://buhnerhealinglyme.com/category/basics/dosage/. Hope this helps, Julie

Is it effective to cure african trypanosomiasis and chagas disease or kissing bug disease?

  12. Christine

You don’t need both. One is “Core” (with Andrographis) and one is “Tonic” (without Andrographis).

  13. Joe

Can you please explain the difference between the two?

  14. Patricia

How long do you need to take Green Dragon LB Core protocol for at 9 capsules per day x 3 a day?

  15. Lorrie

    To healing Lyme Admin.
I am confused by the Green Dragon LB line as it is not the current core protocol in Stephen’s second ed. “ Healing Lyme” . I am just trying to get started here and the easiest and most economical way to go about this would be helpful. Is it more effective to get individual herbs? Any wisdom garnered from experience would be greatly appreciated!

  16. healing lyme admin

    Hi Lorrie,
I’m sorry but I don’t know how to answer you as I am not up on the cost of herbs individually vs Green Dragon line. Have you talked to the owner of Green Dragon to see if he makes a version consistent with the second edition of Healing Lyme? You might try one of his versions and just add what you need individually. Maybe others who are actively doing the protocol and have priced things out can respond as well. The Q&A has been closed for years now and I get too many comments/questions here to answer. I leave the site up as a courtesy to the lyme community so you can all access past archives and answer each others’ questions. Best, Julie

They are not identical. Core has Androgrgraphis. Tonic has Eleuthero. The other 4 identical ones need to be taken in larger amounts, frequently. One needs a lot of herb matter to combat and compete with some of the aggressive organisms out there today.

  18. Arlette

There are many Healing Lyme books, which one am I suppose to get? I know it is by Stephen Buhner but which one?
I have cats claw, Japanese Knot Weed and Eleuthero root from 2017. Are they still good and please answer the question about the Healing Lyme book. :) Thank you and God bless you.

    Hi Arlette,
You should get the most recent Healing Lyme edition. Best, Julie

  20. Andy

Hi- I am taking individual herbs (japanese knotweed, cats claw, andrographis, devils claw, astragalus, milk thistle along with b12, collagen and omegas and bought the green dragon LB protocol, should I wait several days without taking anything prior to starting green dragon’s? Thank you

  21. healing lyme admin

That is the most up-to-date edition as far as I am aware.

  22. Arlette Vanarthos

It does not say how much of the Lyme Herbs I need to use. Also, it states lots of the herbs and symptoms. Not sure what to use. I do not have it that bad but I still have it. My brain rushes ahead of me and l have pressure it my head. The collagen with loose skin is bad. Loosing hair terribly and very dry skin. I use moisturizer on my body but the hair is awful. Memory is know where to what it was, brain fog and do not sleep at all. I am sure I will think of more things as I go a long.
    Thanks
    Arlette
    God bless

Have I missed something in his book?

  23. Julie

See page 76 of Healing Lyme for the dosage and which herbs are in the core protocol.

  24. Arlette Vanarthos

Not sure if this went through. I looked on page 76 and could not find the amount of the protocol and which herbs to take. Either that or I bought the wrong book. This is the book I bought. Please let me know if this is the book you were talking about. It is the 2nd edition.

Apologies, I was looking at the original version of the book. I can’t find a summary of the core protocol in the new book that you have. There is a chapter on the Core Protocol on page 209. You have to go through and determine which areas you want to support yourself based on your symptoms and use those herbs he lists on pages 213-215. There is a summary of the core protocol on the homepage of this website, as well. The three main herbs are Japanese Knotweed, Cat’s Claw and Andrographis.

Thank you Julie, I am presently using Japanese Knotweed, Cats Claw Uncaria Tomentosa and Great Lakes gelatin powder, plus lots of supplements including Mimosa Pudica from Microbes Formular and Wormwood. I have some Eleutherococcus. They are all powder accept for the supplements and mimosa pudica. Do you think I need do take the Eleutherococcus. It does not help with sleep even though I can’t sleep anyway. What is Andrographis?
    Bless you
    Arlette

  28. Julie

    Hi Arlette,
I’m not qualified to tell you if you should take Eleuthero or not. But with my knowledge of the Buhner protocol over the years, I would say the Eleuthero is optional. It seems the Andrographis is important and a central herb for the core protocol. Please be aware that some people have a full body rash or loss of taste with Andrographis so if that does happen, stop taking it and then maybe start again once the symptoms clear on a much lower dose and ramp up slowly. Hope this helps, but please refer to the book for info on these herbs and what is appropriate based on your symptom picture.

  29. Arlette Vanarthos

Thank you for answering my questions. Bless you and may He always keep you.

  30. Arlette Vanarthos

I am looking at getting some Andrographis but can’t find 600mg. The Lymeherb site has 500mg. Very expensive. Do you know of a brand I can get that is 600mg’s and not too expensive? I will do as you stated, go slow.
    Thanks and God bless
    Arlette

  31. Arlette Vanarthos

I also need capsules not tablets for the andrographis. That is what is in his book.
    Thanks
    Arlette

  32. Julie

I only know of Green Dragon Botanicals. I would just keep searching online on a Google search to find what you are looking for, or post on a lyme group to get suggestions from others. There are Buhner Healing Lyme groups on Facebook, for example. Best, Julie

    Hi Healing Lyme Admins
I was wonder how long I have to be on Stephan Buhner’s protocol and if you can, please let me know if I need to do maintenance and how much of it. Presently, I am on Japanese Knotweed 1 teaspoon 3 x perday, catsclaw 1 teaspoon 3x perday, 4 ashwagandha and 9 of the andrographis.
Will the Lyme symptoms go away after I have been on it for a while.
    Thank you and God bless,
    Arlette Vanarthos

  35. Julie

    Hi Arlette,
You can find the answers in the Healing Lyme book as well as past Q & As on this site. I believe you would need to be without symptoms for a while before considering stopping the herbs. I can’t say if all your symptoms will go away … it is a complex illness with potentially multiple co-infections and there are many possibilites for treatment. The Healing Lyme book attempts to provide you with some good herbal options based on your symptom profile. I would recommend consulting with a qualified herbalist familiar with the Healing Lyme protocol if you are unable to find adequate answers to your questions. Stephen’s partner Julie McIntyre would be a good place to start! All my best, Julie

  36. Arlette Vanarthos

Hi Julie, I do not have a Herbalist that can answer this for me. How do I get in touch with Julie McIntyre to find out the answers to these questions.

Julie, sorry for all these questions. How do you know whether or not you have co infections Do you test for them and where do you start? I found out I had Lyme through Igenix and Medicare paid for it.

I have been on Stephan Buhners protocol since the beginning of July 2019 and still can feel something going on at night time in bed. Why do I feel these at sleep time early in the morning. Once I get up in the morning they disappear.
I live in Va Bch, Va,

    Hi Arlette,
I am really too ill at the moment to answer so many questions. The Q + A has been shut down for a few years, I leave the site up as a resource. Please use the search tool and past archives to search for answers to your questions. I am not up on current tests at Igenix but they should certainly offer the tests for co-infections. Best, Julie

  40. Arlette Vanarthos

Thank you Julie and sorry you are sick.

  41. Cristina

Hi! I have at home the LB Core Protocol from Green Dragons. Can I use it on my dog? And if so, what is the dosage? She is 45lbs. Thank you!

  42. Ann

Hi, I have been treating with conventional meds for a long time and I’m not getting better. I would like to change to herbs. I have Lyme, Babs and Bartonella. Is there a simple protocol that you recommend for all three? My brain isn’t functioning well enough to do a complicated protocol without skipping doses (historically my problem).

  43. Graeme

    Hi,
I just want to clarify the dosage, so we should take a minimum of 27 pills daily ?
That seemed a bit much so I wanted to clarify.
    Thank you
